Embracing The Christmas Spirit

No matter where you call home in the USA, the spirit of Christmas brings joy, warmth, and thoughts of getting together to hearts. My husband, Tom,  and I have come to cherish the unique holiday experience that Georgia offers. The mild and sunny weather, the friendly spirit of the Georgian people, and the absence of Christmas snow are all part of the holiday charm. The sounds of children’s laughter and holiday music, the smell of fragrant poinsettias and cinnamon spice, and the brightness of local light displays all contribute to the festive spirit.

Family and friends are an important part of our Christmas Celebrations. Together, memorable stories are told and are sure to be passed from generation to generation. Every Christmas, the Church fills our souls with the reason for the Season, the Holy Birth. Special music, pageants, nativity scenes, and the reenactment of our Savior’s birth preserve the reason for the Season.

While our faces may not turn rosy from frosty air like in other parts of the country, we share in the holiday glow and excitement of celebrating the Holy birth. We wish you all a hearty Merry Christmas and a joyous holiday season. From our house and hearts to yours, Happy Holidays!

The Beauty of Autumn

Wouldn’t you agree that October is the crown jewel of autumn, bringing in the crisp air, warm sweaters, and the simple joy of crunching leaves underfoot? Isn’t it wonderful to take in nature as it paints the landscape with reds, oranges, and yellows and to breathe in the fresh air. What’s not to love.

But  let's not put November in October’s shadow. As I write, the scents of pumpkin spice and cinnamon fill our home, evoking nostalgia and comfort. My husband and I have visited pumpkin patches and apple markets, which made for some delightful outings. Apple fritters, pies, and cider have done their part to add to the season’s charm and my waistline.

November brings the cooling weather. It invites outdoor activities without the extremes of summer or winter. It brings great conversations of laughter and thanks around dining tables. Autumn sunsets add breathtaking views.

In every gust of wind that blows through barren leaves, November whispers reminders of another year about to end. The beauty of autumn lies not just in the visual splendor of the fall season but in the emotions it stirs within us. It’s a time to cherish the present, to relish the surrounding beauty, and to prepare for the cozy winter ahead.

So, grab your favorite hot drink (mine will be Starbucks’s Pumpkin Spice) and step outside. Let’s enjoy the magic of November. Together, we can take in the crisp air, the vibrant foliage, and the sense of wonder only autumn can bring.

Whatever Your Story

Tell your story, far and near, write it down for all to hear or whisper it softly if you prefer. When I think about babies entering heaven, it reminds me of the untold stories of these precious little ones created by God. I reflect on my time spent volunteering at a pregnancy center, where I taught young women how to care for newborns before their child’s birth. It was a truly rewarding experience to see these girls choose to become mothers. Sharing your story is important. Sometimes, we keep stories hidden in silence for far too long. It’s crucial to give voice to our experiences and memories, no matter how difficult or sensitive the subject may be. Attending grief share programs can provide a cathartic release. Your story, like a seed, has the potential to impact others, regardless of the medium or volume used to tell it. Given the current state of our nation and its changing belief system, I would like to conclude by saying, “May God bless our nation with a deep understanding of His truths.”

Life Is More Than Bandaids...

While I haven’t walked a mile in another woman’s shoes, I’ve experienced my share of blisters wearing mine. What I’m trying to express is that I’ve encountered many challenges in my life.
While reading the Bible, I discovered one can always continue learning and growing spiritually, regardless of age---I'm a grandmother of seven. Because of my quest, I felt compelled to compile a guide that pointed to scripture. I even added a few edifying stories. The guide is called “Women Reaching Higher.” Here’s a short snippet: “Will you be tempted again?” Sure. The flesh depends only on itself and wants complete control. What you do and say defines you as a child of God. Although weak in the flesh, the Christian woman is powerful in the Spirit. You can stand firm when you say you can do anything through Christ. Keep in mind the devil, fallen earth, and sinful nature will always try to destroy. (There will be times one has to pick-up one's self, dust one's self off, and keep moving foreward.) One of Satan’s purposes in tempting Christians is for them to lose interest in what the Lord has purposed for their life. But Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to safeguard our hearts against Satan’s attacks. We can sense the Holy Spirit’s promptings through our consciences?” John 14:26 promises, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” Thank you LORD for your Word. Thank you, Jesus, for loving us, and thank you, Holy Spirit, for your guidance.

Promises Of What Is Good

I have been awake for sometime. It’s 4:07 a.m., I’ve already had my first cup of coffee and am reading in the book of Psalms. This morning, my eyes kept going back to beautiful verses in Psalm 85. I hope it touches your heart also: “Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before Him and prepares the way for his steps.” After looking at commentary on Psalm 85, I found seven critical components for spiritual revival. I suppose these principals can apply to self and Nation: These include (1) faith, (2) repentance, (3) prayer, (4) hope, (5) submission, (6) gratitude, and (7) obedience...all of which I need to work on. Have a great day and give praise to the One that gave it to us. Back to reading...

Sometimes the Light Bulb Just Goes On...

I loved the analogy between the Two Kingdoms and “The Parable of the Prodigal Son.” Please note: If this is not what you like to read, please stay turned for September blog! Israel and Judah: Difference Between the Two Kingdoms By Dustin Herron (thank you Dustin for writing this article) When Judah and Israel Were One When the people of Israel asked God for a king, the nation officially became a kingdom. But God warned them that it would come with its challenges. The Great Divide In about the 10th century BCE something took place that dramatically affected the people of Israel and still affects them today. What was it? It was the great divide, which split the people into the kingdoms of Israel and of Judah. 1 Kings 12:16-19 tells us: “And when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, ‘What portion do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Look now to your own house, David.’ …So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.” The Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah In that day, there was a great dispute in Israel, the nation chosen by God, about who was to become king. Rehoboam, Solomon’s son, was rightful heir to the throne and reigned after Solomon’s death. Jeroboam was a servant who rebelled against Solomon. The 10 tribes of Israel made Jeroboam king and the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, along with the Levites, remained with Rehoboam. The split was prophesied by the Lord (1 Kings 11:11-13, 29-39) because of Solomon’s sin.  The northern 10 tribes kept the name of Israel. The once unified tribes of Jacob were now two nations. They were two houses, or two brothers if you will, that had become enemies. The prophets wept over her fate. They were a people of God after all. But their pride and hunger for power took over. Difference between Israel and Judah We see throughout the rest of the Old Testament how these two nations fought with one another. They each became strong and independent and created two distinct lineages in history. Each had their own kings, and even their own prophets. Sadly, also both Israel and Judah fell into captivity, although to different powers and at different times. God sent the Babylonians to capture the House of Judah, and He sent the Assyrians to conquer the House of Israel. And while the Babylonian captivity of Judah lasted for a period of 70 years, Israel never fully came out of the Assyrian captivity. The Samaritans were considered half-breeds from the House of Israel. But many tribes were considered lost. At first, they were known as the “diaspora”, which is a common name for the Jewish people who live away from their land. Eventually, the northern tribes became the “lost sheep of the House of Israel.” Yeshua Mentions the Two Houses We know from Scripture that the kingdom line of Messiah had to come through Judah. Though this divide happened long centuries before Yeshua (Jesus in Hebrew) was born on earth, it was something very relevant to His day. On more than one occasion Yeshua brings up the tension between the two kingdoms. It happened several times, for example, when Yeshua interacted with the Samaritan woman. Yeshua brings it up also in the “Parable of the Good Samaritan.” But perhaps the most overlooked reference and teaching that Yeshua delivers on the two houses is in “The Parable of the Prodigal Son.” The Father, the Prodigal Son and Brother This parable is most often taught as a call for an unbelieving family member to come back into relationship with the Father. But could there be a deeper message in this story? Or another layer? I would like to suggest that the Messiah also wanted to bring attention to the two “brotherly” nations. In the parable, the younger son asks for his inheritance and departs from his father’s house. The elder son remains at home, yet he does not walk in perfect harmony with the father. Anger and bitterness settle within him. Even when his brother comes home, the firstborn has an inward struggle to rejoice. The Prodigal Brothers, Israel and Judah The Southern Kingdom of Judah is like the firstborn, who never intended to abandon the father. The kingship rested with him. Judah carried the lineage of the great king David and king Solomon. Biblical history shows us that Judah remained closer to the LORD and His ways, even though their hearts were far from Him. This lays out the Northern Kingdom of Israel to be the younger son. The prophet Jeremiah tells us in great detail that neither Israel nor Judah were perfect. Both had evil in their hearts. But it is Israel who first went out and “sowed their wild oats”, chose other gods and foreigners. Doesn’t it sound like the younger son who committed many sins in a foreign land? In His parable, Yeshua called those who surrounded Him to not be angry and stubborn of heart when their brother returned from his sin. Reuniting the Family Next time you read the Parable of the Prodigal Son, try looking at it in a different light. Consider the two brothers and their relationship. Think about how Yeshua was preparing the hearts of the Jewish people to receive their brothers with gladness. The northern tribes have been scattered and lost for a long time. Yeshua’s death on the cross made a way also for the “lost sheep of the House of Israel” to be brought back into relationship with the Father. God wants to reunite His chosen people. And Yeshua’s death clothes them once again in righteousness and gives them authority. Just like the best robe and the signet ring that the father gives to his son in the parable. God’s desire is for Israel to return to His household, and for His other son to receive Israel with open arms.

Take a Dip into Summer with a Flavorful Vegetable dip.

I hope you all are having a fantastic summer filled with cool breezes and fun activities. I finally kicked my summer cold and am ready to dive into the joy of summer. July 4th is in a few weeks and offers many opportunities to meet with family, friends, and neighbors and make beautiful memories together. As promised, below is my all-time favorite vegetable dip recipe. I'm so excited to share it with you! Yes, my AeroGarden did its thing and leafed out everywhere! Beau Monde Vegetable Dip is a breeze to make. Just mix 1 pint sour cream, 1 pint Hellmann's mayonnaise (not Miracle Whip), 1 Teaspoon Dill weed, 3 Tablespoons onion flakes, 3 Tablespoons parsley, 1 Teaspoon Beau Monde (Spice Islands). Sometimes, I add a little more Beau Monde. Chill in the refrigerator for 8 hours. Serve with your favorite vegetable tray assortment. Enjoy! I'll make myself some right now. I'm looking forward to hearing what you all think of it. Your feedback is important to me. Wishing you all a great day filled with joy and good food. Take care.

From Plant To Plate

AeroGarden. Now that’s a word for you. My granddaughter gave me an in-home garden system for Christmas two years ago. Since my husband and I were traveling a lot, I put the box of goodies in the pantry stored away but not forgotten. Today’s the day I pulled the box from the shelf. I must admit I haven’t the greenest thumb in the world, the country, or probably on our street, but I’ve got the explorer’s heart and am willing to try almost anything. This system will tell me when to add water, automatically turn on and off the grow light, and when to add plant food….Miracle-Gro (Yeah!). So I asked myself, how hard can this be to mess up? I will be a basil, parsley, dill, mint, thyme, and Thai Basil queen. I’m ready to grow some herbs! If it goes well, I will share my favorite dill dip recipe with you next month. And if it doesn’t, I’ll send the garden system to the first person who emails me. Just kidding. I’ll ask my granddaughter what I did wrong. She’s the genius in the family; she’ll know.

Love in a World Without Pennies

Once upon a time, celebrating Valentine’s Day came cheaply. You could buy your kids penny candy tucked inside a little cardboard heart‑shap...
