Christmas: The Hype, the Ho-Ho, and the Holy

Every year, Christmas sneaks up on us like a ninja in a Santa suit. One day it’s pumpkin spice season, and the next, boom...it's Christmas. Let's face it. Christmas is festive, dazzling, and sometimes bewildering.

It's also a season that brings a parade of traditions, like people sprinting through malls where the aisles become obstacle courses, and the checkout lines feel longer than Santa's naughty list.

What about that Elf on the Shelf? The little guy is basically a tiny home invader who moves your stuff and never pays rent. He often gets into mischief by making a mess with flour or hiding in the fridge. As long as the little guy leaves my chocolate alone, I'm alright with that. For isn't chocolate just festive decorations for the stomach? My scales give too much credence to fudge, so I put my scales under the bed. Besides, Holiday calories don't!

And, fruitcake? Yes, it's still indestructible, and it still doubles as a dessert and a doorstop. Last I heard, scientists are considering using fruitcake as a building material.

Yes, the Holidays are hilarious, chaotic, and wonderful, and I enjoy every second of them. As the 25th of December sneaks up on us and dazzles us with its bright, sparkling lights, let us remember Christmas isn't about the fruitcake that refuses to die, or the elf who won't pay rent. It's about the gift of salvation and the hope that came into the world on that holy night through the birth of a babe named Jesus. The Bible says in Luke 2:11"For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord." So as we celebrate, let's pay tribute to God, who sent his Son to bring light into our darkness, peace into our chaos, and eternal life to all who believe.

As we gather in the glow of this sacred season, may our hearts be filled with gratitude and wonder. Let us cherish the love that binds us, the hope that sustains us, and the joy through You that renews us. May the light of Christ shine brightly in our lives, guiding us to share His peace and grace with the world. Merry Christmas!

Love in a World Without Pennies

Once upon a time, celebrating Valentine’s Day came cheaply. You could buy your kids penny candy tucked inside a little cardboard heart‑shap...
